Making God Too Nice
I had to write a short blog in answer to several comments I’ve found in random forum discussions across the net. The comments were about me and the message I preach about the Heart of God. If I were not laughing so hard when I read them I might be tempted to be angry or upset. I can honestly say now that some people will complain about anything and everything they can get their hands on.
The person that made the comment, stated that I painted a picture of God that was “too nice” and that people might try to become “buddy-buddy with God” and not give Him the respect and reverence that He deserves.
NOW I’ve heard everything! Imagine being upset at someone for making God out to be too nice!!! Think about that for a moment. Was there anyone in all of Scripture who was warned by God to not go down that road of making Him look too good? Does this person really believe that when I die and face God, this will be something I’ll have to answer for? I wonder what the punishment would be for such an offense. Would it be a simple rebuke from God or would He make me write “I will not make Father God out to be too nice ever again.” a trillion times on a chalk board in heaven?
The astonishing thing is that this particular guy was sincerely concerned and upset about this. He went as far as to call me a heretic and a dangerous and deceptive preacher who is selling a satanic message. He was earnestly warning people to steer clear of me and all I have to say. How in the world will his campaign to warn and inform people of this heresy benefit anyone? He mentioned that such thinking could cause people to not fear God and as a result, they might step out of line and fall into sin. This is the sad reality of the religious spirit and how it thinks. It believes that fear rather than Love is the motivator to abstain from sin. I pray with every fiber of my soul that no one listens to loveless religious reasoning like this.
Understand this: when we die and meet Him face to face, we are going to find that our understanding of His love and “niceness” will not have even scratched the surface. There is going to be an entire universe of niceness about Him that we will behold and soak in, for all of eternity and never ever come to the end of it. We see only in part while we inhabit these temporary “earth suits.” Please don’t ever worry that your Father in heaven is not as nice and loving as you’ve heard me preach. If anything, I would rather you worry that I didn’t do justice to His Heart and his “niceness” in my books and sermons.
Some people can study the history of God and how He dealt with others in the past. They might even memorize God’s every word and action throughout Scripture, along with every testimony in the Bible about personal encounters with the living God. But in the end, the only testimony that anyone of us will ever be allowed to give, will be our personal testimony of our encounters with the Father. Sadly, I think that many people will have no such testimony to give. They will only be able to recite the memorized and studied stories of a thousand dead people from the pages of the Bible.
